In the past six years, the Indonesian Government has continued to focus on building infrastructure, both physical and digital, to become a link between regions all across Indonesia.

“In addition to connecting national economy, infrastructure is also intended to further strengthen unity and integrity of our nation,” President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said in his opening remarks at the IX Congress of the United Development Party (PPP) virtually from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Friday (18/12).

The increasingly effective offline and online connectivity, according to the President, can improve interfaith communication in Indonesia and strengthen unity in diversity, adding that through physical and digital connectivity, the Indonesian people can share their experiences in developing their regions.

“To face today’s world which is full of change and competition among countries, companies, and individuals, we should share knowledge in developing innovation and improving quality of our human resources” he said.

President Jokowi further said that the people must utilize digital infrastructure for positive things.

“We must actively spread the news on social media with concordance. We must also fight against hoaxes and hate speech, as well as respect others,” he added.

On that occasion, the President also invited all general education institutions and Islamic boarding schools to work hand-in-hand to strengthen the Indonesian characters of the younger generation.

Concluding his remarks, President Jokowi appreciated PPP’s progress as the oldest Islamic party in unifying the Islamic people and the party’s help in building the nation.

The Head of State also also said considered the PPP to be an example and role model for other organizations in strengthening national unity and harmony as well as accelerating Indonesia’s development. (TGH/UN) (RAS/EP)
