The Government has renewed commitment to improve measures in an effort to tackle COVID-19 pandemic both in terms of handling health crisis and economic recovery.

According to Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, one of the measures is by providing free vaccinations for the people.

“The Government on 13 January 202 officially kicked off the COVID-19 vaccination program. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is the first person to get vaccinated and today, 27 January 2021, the President received the second jab,” he said, Tuesday (27/01).

Through vaccination, he continued, the Government hopes that herd immunity will be immediately achieved. To that end, vaccination is required for around 70 percent of the Indonesian population or approximately 181.5 million people, he added.

Pramono also pointed out that the COVID-19 vaccine used by the Government in the vaccination program has been declared safe and halal (permissible under Islamic law) by the competent authorities.

“The vaccine is safe, halal and clinically tested and has been used in several countries,” he said.

Pramono also reiterated that vaccination must go hand in hand with discipline in observing 3M’s health protocol (wearing a face mask, maintaining a safe distance, washing hands and avoiding crowds).

“Let us help each other, support each other and work together with the Government to make this vaccination program a success so that we achieve herd immunity. We hope our country can immediately bounce back to create prosperity for all Indonesian people,” he said. (MAY/UN) (MUR/EP)
