One Million Medical Workers Have Received First COVID-19 Jab: Minister

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin confirmed that one million medical workers have received first COVID-19 vaccine jab as of Thursday (11/2).

According to him, approximately 1.3 million medical workers have visited healthcare facilities to receive the vaccine, yet some of them who have comorbidities or who are pregnant cannot be vaccinated. Thus, only 1,017,186 million medical workers have received one dose of COVID-19 vaccine out of the target of 1.48 million people. Meanwhile, the number of medical workers receiving the second dose has reached 345,605 people.

After rolling out vaccine to medical workers, the Minister will give the vaccine to public officers, followed by senior citizens aged 60 and above.

“Those falling into ‘public officer’ category are people whose duties enable them to meet many people on a daily basis,” the Minister said, adding that vaccination for senior citizens will kick off shortly after.

For the record, the target of COVID-19 vaccination is 181.5 million Indonesians aged 18 and above. To vaccinate the target, it requires 363 million doses of vaccines since two doses will be given to each person.

In addition, the Minister has also allocated 15 percent more for spare, bringing the total vaccines required for the program to 426 million doses. (MINISTRY OF HEALTH PR/UN) (RAS/MUR)
