Speech of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of Yogyakarta-Solo Electric Train Operation on Monday, 1 March 2021 at Tugu Station in Yogyakarta City, Special Region of Yogyakarta Province

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Good morning,

May peace be upon us all.

Distinguished Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet,

Distinguished Chairperson and Members of Commission V of the House of Representatives,

Distinguished Governor of Special Region of Yogyakarta and Governor of Central Java, all members of Regional Leadership Communication Forum who are present, and President Director as well as Directors of PT KAI,

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Thank God, this morning we will immediately inaugurate and operate Yogyakarta-Solo electric train. This is an environmentally-friendly mass transportation.

I was told that this electric train is faster than Prameks, how much faster, Sir? Approximately 10 minutes faster. Then, the operational costs are much more affordable. It used to cost Rp640. Now it costs Rp290. This is an excellent efficiency and the most important thing is that this train, this electric train, is environmentally friendly.

I suppose the future transportation modes in our country should be environmentally-friendly mass transportation. Vehicles in the future should also be environmentally friendly, using electricity. And we hope it can help both the mobility of people and goods from Yogyakarta to Solo, Solo to Yogyakarta, and also help boost our tourism and economy.

That concludes my speech on this auspicious occasion and by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today I hereby inaugurate the operation of Yogyakarta-Solo electric train.
