Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Yesterday, I have received reports from Minister of Defense, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), and from the Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff regarding KRI Nanggala-402 submarine which contact was lost during a naval drill in waters north of the island of Bali on Wednesday, 21 April 2021.

To date, TNI Commander and Navy Chief have been leading the searching on the ground. I have ordered the TNI Commander, Navy Chief, and the National Search and Rescue Agency to join hands with other related institutions in doing their utmost to conduct search and rescue operation. The safety of 53 crew on board becomes our priority.

To the families of the crew, I understand about your feeling right now. However, the Government has done and will continue to do its utmost to search and rescue all crew on board.

Lastly, I invites the public to pray for the success in search and rescue operation, so that we can find the KRI Nanggala-402 along with the crew unharmed.

I thank you.

Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. (RAS/MUR)
