President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Iriana Jokowi on Thursday (13/5) performed Eid al-Fitr 1442 Hijri prayer in the yard of the Main Building of the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java.

The Eid prayer was conducted at 06.36 Western Indonesian Time and led by Ridwan Payopo, a member of Presidential Security Details (Paspampres).

In his sermon, Payopo said that performing prayers at home and accepting the condition during the COVID-19 pandemic are trials from Allah the Almighty.

“We must be patient in accepting the reality. We must also believe that our efforts to obey Allah, the Prophet, ulemas, and the authorities can save the humanity from a pandemic,” he added.

He also expressed hope that amidst the ongoing pandemic, all fellow Muslims must be able to maintain discipline in performing prayers just as they have done during the holy month of Ramadan and can become a better person.

For the record, this year’s Eid prayer is conducted by adhering to strict health protocols including checking body temperature of all congregants before entering the compound and maintaining safe distance between the congregants.

After performing the Eid prayer, President Jokowi and the First Lady returned to Wisma Bayurini presidential residence, the Bogor Presidential Palace. (PRESIDENTIAL SECRETARIAT/UN) (RAS/MUR)
