Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia when Overseeing Light Rail Transit (LRT) Jabodetabek Project 9 June 2021, at Harjamukti Station, Cibubur and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) Station, Pinang Ranti, Jakarta
Today, I come to see the progress of Light Rail Transit (LRT) Jabodetabek. The development has already been 84.7 percent completed and it is expected that the public trial will start in April 2022 and the operation in June 2022.
Why do we build the LRT system? Because we want to establish an integrated mass transportation, namely the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), LRT, airport rail, Transjakarta (Bus Rapid Transit) that will improve efficiency of people’s mobility from one place to another. We hope after this project is completed, the development can be carried on to other areas.
I rode on the unit that is fully made by state-owned train manufacturer PT INKA (Industri Kereta Api) and the operation will be managed by state-owned train operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). Thus, all components were made in Indonesia, including the track that is constructed by state-owned construction company PT Adhi Karya.
I think that we need more experience like this so we could have experience in constructing the LRT, which is done by PT INKA, and save it to become a basis for Indonesia to be involved in the construction of other LRT projects in other countries. In fact, we have exported trains to Bangladesh and the Philippines, and hopefully it will be followed by LRT project.
That concludes my remarks. The train I rode on ran very smoothly, and it is comfortable, fast, and noiseless.
I thank you. (RA/LW)
