President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is aiming for vaccination coverage of 7.5 million residents in capital Jakarta by the end of August.

“I have ordered Governor of Jakarta to have a total of 7.5 million people in Jakarta vaccinated by the end of August,” President Jokowi said in his remarks during the inspection of mass COVID-19 vaccination for general public and workers at Tanah Tinggi low-cost apartment, Jakarta, Monday (14/6).

The President went on to say that the target must be fulfilled to reach herd immunity immediately. To that end, the President called on all relevant ranks to work hard in achieving the target.

“I hope all of you will work hard to achieve the target, all levels at regencies, districts, sub-districts, as well as all healthcare centers and hospitals in Jakarta,” he said.

On that occasion, the President said that Jakarta province is considered as a region with a high level of people’s interaction and mobility. Thus, the speed of vaccination drive will determine the success in dealing with the pandemic.

The Government, he added, will also prioritize vaccination for people in vulnerable areas, including those living at Tanah Tinggi low-cost apartment.

“Why is the vaccination conducted in this area? Because this is a densely populated area with higher communities interaction so that this area is included in priority list for vaccination. Imagine if one person is affected by the virus, then there will be rapid spreading of the virus. For that reason, vaccination is crucial in this area,” he said. (SLN/UN) (RIF/MUR)
