President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a discussion with Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim to talk about Kampus Merdeka (Independent Campus) program on Tuesday (15/06/2021) at the State Palace, Jakarta.

On that occasion, President Jokowi delivered five things that Indonesian university graduates must have to face the future.

First, the most important thing is they must be tolerant of diversity and they must have dedication to the humanity and the nation’s progress.

Second, they must have character and ability to become outstanding learners because graduating from university is not enough without improving their knowledge and skills.

President Jokowi added that in the future the world will be replete with disruptions, massive changes, and competitions, so that ability to never stop learning is very important in order to survive.

Third, they must be able to innovate brand new things and be part of the solution to any community problems.

Fourth, they must master science and technology which are also inseparable competency aspects to survive in this age.

Related to this issue, industry involvement in Indonesia’s higher education is substantial to boost the development process and mastery of science and technology.

Fifth, they must be ready to be qualified employees to fill available jobs and are also expected to be entrepreneurs who create and provide jobs in Indonesia, adding that, they must be highly sensitive people so that they understand the community problems and can provide right solutions through entrepreneurship.
