Ladongi Dam Ready to Provide Water for East Kolaka Regency

Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is completing the final stage of Ladongi Dam construction in East Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province.

As of today, the construction progress has reached 90.28 percent and the water impounding is slated to be carried out in July 2021.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said that water resources and irrigation will continue to support sustainable agricultural production.

“The construction of the dam and the construction of irrigation network are important to maintain water supply to farmland,” the Minister said as quoted by the Ministry’s official website, Sunday (27/06).

The construction of the dam, which began in 2016 with the construction period until the end of 2021, aims to optimize the potential of the Ladongi River flow as a water resource in East Kolaka Regency. The construction is financed by the State Budget through a multi-year contract scheme for 2016-2021 with the budget of Rp 1.14 trillion.

The Ladongi Dam will have a capacity of 45.95 million cubic meters and an inundation area and a green belt area of ​​246.13 hectares. The water supply will be used for irrigation system in rice fields, with irrigation services covering an area of ​​3,604 hectares in East Kolaka.

The Ladongi Dam will also provide raw water of 0.12 cubic meters per second and become a potential source of 1.3 megawatts electricity and become tourist destination that can grow the local economy. The dam also functions as flood control in the downstream area of ​​ Ladongi River by retaining water during rainy season with the capacity of 132.25 cubic meters per second.

In addition to the Ladongi Dam, the Government is also building Ameroro Dam and will build Pelosika Dam in Southeast Sulawesi Province. (PR of Ministry Public Works and Public Housing/UN)
