President Jokowi Asserts Importance of Land Certificate for People

Land certificate is important for every land owner because it is a legal proof of land ownership. Name of land owner and the total area of land are written in a land certificate.

The statement was made by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo when delivering his remarks, Thursday (02/03), at the Handover of Land Certificate to the People at Sudirman Park in Dairi regency, North Sumatra province.

“If you have a house and lived there for 20 years or you have your own plantations for 15 years but you do not have a certificate yet. Suddenly, someone come to claim yours; this is mine, how do you want to prove it? That’s why a land certificate is important, it provides legal certainty over land ownership,” the President said.

The Government is concerned about the issue of land certificate because there are still cases of land dispute between citizens, citizens and the Government, even citizens and private companies. The problem can be solved with a land certificate, according to the President.

Therefore, the Government will continue to accelerate the process of the issuance of land certificate in order to settle land disputes.

The Head of State has set a target to increase the number of land certificates issued by the Government.

“The next target is higher than nine million (certificates). Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the certificates distributed only reached eight million. However, eight million certificates are significantly higher than 500,000 certificates, aren’t they?” President Jokowi added.

Furthermore, President Jokowi reminded all land certificate holders to keep their certificates properly and  use them wisely. If land certificate holders want to get a loan from the bank and make the certificate as a collateral, the President urged them to use the loan fund for business capital.
