Gov’t Declares PPKM Level 3 as Omicron Cases Rise

In a bid to tackle the surge in Omicron variant cases, the Government has called on public to stay calm while remaining vigilant.

According to the Government, although Omicron variant has a high transmission rate, the impact on hospitals and death rate remains relatively small.

The statement was made by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who is also Coordinator of the Public Activities Restriction (PPKM) for Java and Bali after the Limited Meeting online on PPKM Evaluation, Monday (02/07).

The Minister added that the Government has prepared mitigation measures to tackle this third wave of COVID-19; thus, the people can carry out usual activities in accordance with health protocols and provisions of the PPKM.

Luhut added that based on the assessment level of current pandemic situation in Java and Bali, the agglomeration area of Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek), Special Region of Yogyakarta province, Bali province, and the area of Greater Bandung (Bandung Raya) will be under PPKM level 3.

He also underscored that the reason to impose PPKM Level 3 is not about the high rate of cases, but the low rate of tracing.

In the meantime, to strengthen the PPKM amid the surge of Omicron variant cases, the Government, he added, will make adjustment to PPKM Level 3 that aims to protect vulnerable groups including the elderly, individuals with comorbids, and individuals who are not vaccinated yet.

The adjustments are as follows.

  1. Export-oriented, domestic-oriented industries can continue its operation if they have operational and mobility permits (IOMKI) and a minimum of 75 percent of its employees has been fully vaccinated and keep using PeduliLindungi application.
  2. Supermarkets can operate until 21.00 and have a maximum of 60 percent visitors, while traditional market can operate until 20.00 and have a maximum of 60 percent of visitors.
  3. Malls can operate until 21.00 and have a maximum of 60 percent of visitors. Children under 12 years old are allowed to visit if they have received the first dose of vaccine. Amusement parks for children and other amusement parks can operate maximum 35 percent of their facilities and can allow children to visit if they have received a full dose of vaccine.
  4. Restaurants, cafes, wartegs (Small food stall), street food stalls can operate until 21.00 and have a maximum of 60 percent of visitors.
  5. Cinemas can operate as usual and can allow children under 12 years old to visit if they have received the first dose of vaccine.
  6. Places of worship can be visited at a maximum 50 percent of their capacity.
  7. Public facilities, art and cultural performances can be visited at a maximum of 25 percent of their capacity.

“The Government allow individuals who are fully vaccinated and have received booster vaccine to carry out activities as usual. Do not fear. Keep using facial masks and washing hands properly,” he remarked. (TGH/JW/UN) (AP/EP)
