President Jokowi: Indonesia Has Promising Potential for Digital Economy

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (03/01) inaugurated Sea Labs Indonesia, at Pacific Century Place Building in the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), South Jakarta.
“Indonesia’s digital economy potential in 2025 is estimated to reach US$146 billion, while the contribution is projected to grow eightfold at Rp4,531 trillion by 2030. This is a very large number. The entire digital sector has also recorded double-digit growth in 2021,” the President said.
The President went on to say that he expected Indonesia to provide the market as well as become a player in the sector.
In this regard, the Head of State considered that an ecosystem that is conducive must be built together.
The President also called on Indonesian digital talents who currently work overseas, including those working in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and the blockchain, to return to Indonesia so that they can contribute to the country.
“There are many children of the nation who are abroad. We need to invite them to return home to build our digital system so it can be improved and more conducive,” he said.
The President also expressed appreciation to Sea and Sea Labs Indonesia for bringing Indonesian digital talents back to the country.
In 2023, Sea will invite around 1,000 digital talents to return from abroad to join Sea and Sea Labs Indonesia.
“We hope the development of digital economy can also promote our MSMEs products and provide contributions to inclusive, equitable, and equitable economic growth,” the President remarked.
During the event, the President had a virtual dialogue with four Indonesian digital talents. They are among others Head of Analytics, Platform & Regional Business at Grab Singapore Ainun Najib, Tech Lead at SeaMoney Singapore Rangga Garmastewira, Software Engineer at Google UK Chairuni Aulia Nusapati, and Head of Frameworks Engineering at Asana USA Veni Johanna.
For the record, Sea Labs Indonesia is a Sea initiative that aims to develop Indonesia’s digital industry and provide intensive training for new digital talents.
Through a training curriculum prepared by technology and digital experts as well as job training opportunities, Sea Labs Indonesia will build a team of 1,000 Indonesian digital talents, especially engineers and product managers who will be ready to contribute through technology.
