President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Thursday (03/24), inaugurated the new arrangement of areas in Kupang city, to kick off his working visit in East Nusa Tenggara province.
“I am impressed with the result of the arrangement of areas in Kupang city covering the Kota Lama Kupang (Kupang Old Town), Lai-Lai Besi Kopan Beach, Kelapa Lima Beach, and Frans Seda road corridor,” he said at the inauguration ceremony in Kelapa Lima Beach, Kupang city.
The President expressed hope that the new arrangement can improve the face of tourist destinations and infrastructure of Kupang city, and make tourists enjoy visiting East Nusa Tenggara province, particularly Kupang city immensely.
Based on data from Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, the area arrangement project began in 2020 and completed in 2021. The project which covered an area of 51,900 m2 spent a budget of Rp80 billion.
In addition, there are also other infrastructure development in that city such as drinking water supply system in Dendeng River, as well as construction of schools and polytechnics.
The arrangement of Kupang city is expected to bring various benefits to the city. For instance, the rehabilitation of Kupang Old Town, which is dubbed as the icon of Kupang, can be a destination for culinary tourism that can accommodate 140 local hawkers in order to attract more tourists, and also be an open public space to exhibit arts and culture of the province.
