VP Ma’ruf Amin: Stunting Prevalence Rate Drops to 24.4%

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has expressed appreciation for the hard work everyone in reducing stunting prevalence rate by 6.4 percent in the last three years.

“The result of the Indonesia Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) in 2021 shows success in reducing stunting in the last three years, from 30.8 percent in 2018 to 24.4 percent in 2021,” the Vice President said as quoted from the official website of the office of the Vice President, Tuesday (04/05).

Nevertheless, the Vice President underscored that the Government’s main goal is to reduce stunting prevalence to 14 percent by 2024 and he ordered all stakeholders at all levels of government to make the National Action Plan to Accelerate Indonesia’s Stunting Rate Reduction (RAN-PASTI), which has been made by the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) as a reference to overcome stunting.

“Especially for regional and village governments, let me remind you that your role is becoming more strategic since you are the closest and in direct contact with the people,” the Vice President said.

The RAN-PASTI, the Vice President added, includes elaboration of the five pillars of the National Strategy to Accelerate Stunting Reduction, namely the commitment and vision of national and regional leadership, communication of behavior changes and community empowerment, convergence of specific and sensitive interventions at the central level and the regions, food and nutrition security, and improved and developed systems, data, information, research, and innovation.

Ma’ruf also stated that the Government would continue to oversee and realize the rights of Indonesian children to grow up healthy and to develop optimally.
