Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia during Zakat Payment through National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) of 2022, State Palace, Jakarta, April 12, 2022

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Honorable Vice President,

Honorable Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Coordinating Ministers, Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet,

Honorable Chairpersons of State Institutions,

Honorable Head of the National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) and all ranks of BAZNAS;

Honorable governors, regents, and mayors,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let us extend our praise and gratitude to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for we are still blessed with health and strength in performing our Ramadan fasting. And, alhamdulillah, today, together with the Vice President, chairpersons of state institutions, the ministers, governors, regents, and mayors, we can still pay zakat amid the pandemic.

Paying zakat is an obligation to the Islamic ummah to share their fortune and happiness to their fellow countrymen, particularly those who are entitled to receive zakat (mustahik). And I hope that the zakat fee collected by BAZNAS can be optimally used to assist the people, particularly those who have been impacted by COVID-19 and also to help thoroughly eradicating poverty.

On this auspicious opportunity, I also call on all state officials, all officials of state-owned enterprises, all private companies, and all regional leaders and their ranks throughout Indonesia to pay their zakat through BAZNAS so the zakat fee will be managed professionally and orderly and bring good impact in realizing our people’s welfare.

We hope the zakat we pay will complete our Ramadan fasting and bring perfection to our obedience to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
