BNPB Urges Regional Gov’t to Raise Alertness Following Anak Krakatau Eruption
Following eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau (Anak Krakatoa) in recent week, Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto urged the public to raise alertness and comply with provisions set by the Agency on disaster-prone areas of the volcano.
“People living in disaster-prone area (KRB) I are urged to raise their alertness and stay out from river valley that ends in the crater. Those living in KRB II are prompted to be ready to take shelter at a safe location and wait for further notice from the local government based on recommendation from Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Geological Agency,” Suharyanto said on Thursday (04/28).
For the record, KRB I is located within the 7-kilometer radius from the volcano’s crater, KRB II is within the 5-kilometer radius, and KRB III is within the 2-kilometer radius from the volcano’s crater. KRB III should be cleared from any activities and the residents (if there’s any) must prepare themselves to leave their homes and take shelter.
The Head of BNPB also advised regional heads to take necessary measures to raise alertness and make thorough preparation to activate contingency plan when is needed. (PR of BNPB/UN) (RAS/LW)
