President Jokowi Reminds Farmers to Take Good Care of Dwarf Coconut Trees
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo Thursday (08/11) had a dialog with farmers after planting dwarf coconut trees, locally known as genjah (a variety of coconut tree that has a shorter trunk and produces more coconuts in a shorter period), together with farmers at Giriroto village in Boyolali regency, Central Java province.
On that occasion, President Jokowi reminded all farmers to take good care of the trees.
The President said that if they are taken care of properly, every tree can produce 180 coconuts in a year. The farmers can enjoy their harvest and can sell them as well. These coconuts can also be used to make coconut oil and palm sugar.
President Jokowi stressed that planting dwarf coconut trees is part of the efforts to improve farmers’ welfare considering this plant has added value.
Joining the President and the First Lady were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, and Regent of Boyolali Muhammad Said Hidayat. (BPMI SETPRES/SLN/UN) (AP/MMB)
