Cultural Parade Enlivens Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony

Cultural parade from the National Monument (Monas) Park to Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Wednesday (08/17) marked the start of the commemoration of the 77th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day Ceremony. This was the first cultural parade after hiatus since the COVID-19 outbreak in 2019.

The cultural parade started at Kemerdekaan room of Monas with Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono handing over the duplicate of Indonesia’s National Flag and the original manuscript of proclamation to Duta Pancasila Retd. National Flag-Hoisting Troop (Tim Purna Paskibraka Duta Pancasila).

The duplicate of Indonesia’s National Flag was brought by Irene Odelia Astono, who was a member of 2021’s Retd. Flag-Hoisting Troop, representing West Kalimantan Province. At the same time the original manuscript of proclamation was brought by Qyara Maharani Putri, who was also a member of 2021’s Retd. Flag-Hoisting Troop, representing West Java Province.

Both went to Merdeka Palace, Jakarta by Ki Jaga Raksa Chariot followed by the marching band performed by TNI-Polri personnel, Satria Nusantara troop of Paspampres, Berkebaya Pertiwi Indonesia troop, representatives of monarchies from 34 provinces in Indonesia, and representatives of middle school and high school students wearing Indonesian traditional dress.

Upon arrival at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Duta Pancasila Retd. Flag-Hoisting Troop leave the Chariot to handover the duplicate of Indonesia’s National Flag and the original manuscript of proclamation and put it on the table of honor.

Arts and cultural shows were also part of the Indonesia’s 77th Independence Day Ceremony. There were traditional song performances, Reog Ponorogo dance from East Java Province, Lumense dance from Southeast Sulawesi Province, etc.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo also witnessed the arts and cultural shows with his grandchildrens, Sedah Mirah Nasution and Panembahan Al Nahyan Nasution. (BPMI SETPRES/UN) (AS/MUR)
