VP Ma’ruf Amin Delivers Three Points in SAI20 Summit

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin attended the 2022 Supreme Audit Institutions 20 (SAI20) Summit, Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Hotel, Bali, Monday (08/29).

According to him, the Summit plays an important role in providing guidance to the Government to maintain discipline in management of the state financial budget, including in dealing with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and challenges of the current global crisis.

“The SAI can provide support and guidance in form of a constructive audit, which aims at achieving sustainable economic recovery,” he said.

On that occasion, the Vice President underscored three measures to enhance roles of audit institutions in ensuring the Government’s programs to recover impacts of COVID-19 pandemic to be on the right track.

The three main points delivered by the Vice President are as follows.

“First, the SAI20 is encouraged to deliver its independent audit perspective to support the Government in drawing up policies on sustainable economy recovery, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, and preparation to mitigate future crisis,” he said.

With that audit perspective, he added, all the Government’s programs are expected to be implemented continuously and sustainably.

“Second, the SAI to draw up roles to support the community, the Government, and stakeholders in addressing global challenges, particularly issues that are raised in Indonesia’s G20 presidency, namely strengthening international health architecture, transforming digital economy, and developing green economy including transition towards a just and affordable energy,” he stated.

He expressed belief that a country is able to face various challenges if all layers of society join hands and cooperate.

Third, the Vice President emphasized the importance of networking among stakeholders, both domestic and international ones. They can learn from experiences of previous stakeholders before making a decision.

“The experience of facing crisis in the past has proved the crucial role of auditors for state leaders in making decisions during tough times of crisis. The SAI20 Summit should link thoughts among foreign auditors who have different mandates and experiences in responding to crises. Thus, they can provide us fresh perspectives and ideas,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Ma’ruf Amin expressed hope that the results of the Summit can accommodate the three points and can be used as a reference to draw up the G20 Bali Leaders’ Declaration in November. (BPMI of Vice Presidential Secretariat /UN) (RAS/MUR)
