VP Ma’ruf Amin Calls on G20 Member State Governments to Make Inclusive Work Environment

An inclusive work environment is needed as workforce became a central issue amid the current economic, food, and climate change crises, according to Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

The VP made the statement at the opening of the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting, Wednesday (09/14).

“I would like to foster our cooperation to create an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient new work environment,” he said.

The VP further said that it can be achieved if recovery in the labor force is human-oriented while urging the Government of G20 member states to create work environment that is inclusive and safe for workers.

“In Indonesia, we continue to make efforts to fulfill the rights of workers with disabilities, including by providing inclusive infrastructure. We also continue to improve access to education that is inclusive for workers,” he said.

The VP also expressed hopes that Governments can reinforce social protection for workers affected by the pandemic by ensuring that their rights are fulfilled.

“In Indonesia, it is a part of the national economic recovery program. The social protection programs include Wage Subsidy Assistance program, Pre-employment Card program, Productive Assistance for Micro-Small Enterprises, Labor-Intensive Program carried out by Ministries/Government Institutions and Regional Governments,” he said.

Moreover, the VP called on governments to enhance workers’ literacy and ability to innovate, especially in sectors that will create new jobs in the future, such as digital technology and green economy.

The VP also urged governments to improve workers’ competitiveness in facing global challenges through continuous skilling, reskilling, and upskilling.

“In this regard, Indonesia continues to establish Community Job Training Centers to provide vocational trainings through collaboration between the Government, private/industry sectors, and academia/higher education institutions,” he remarked. (BPMI of Vice Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (DH/MUR)
