G20; Recover Together, Recover Stronger

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is slated to attend the G20 Summit in Bali in November. In addition to attending the Summit, President Jokowi will also hold bilateral meetings with several leaders of the G20 countries.

“In addition to the Summit events, the President will carry out many other activities, including several bilateral meetings. The requests for bilateral meetings reflect great enthusiasm for the G20 and we should be grateful for that,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi said after attending a meeting chaired by President Jokowi at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday (10/31).

The Foreign Minister said that Indonesia has received around 18 requests for bilateral meetings. One of the meetings that will be held is with the United States. The bilateral meetings would be held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

“There have been a lot of [bilateral meeting requests] and we are trying to include them on the sidelines of the meetings. The President has to chair [the meetings], so the opportunity to conduct bilateral meetings is only available in between the meetings,” the Minister said.

Retno added that Indonesia would try its best to accommodate the bilateral meeting requests.

Prior to attending the G20 Summit in Bali, President Jokowi is slated to attend a series of events at the ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. After the G20 Summit, the President will attend the APEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand. (FID/UN) (RI/MMB)
