President Jokowi Holds Bilateral Meetings with State Leaders ahead of G20 Summit

Ahead of the G20 Summit that will take place on November 15-16, 2022, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (11/14) held bilateral meetings with leaders of G20 countries at the Apurva Kempinski Hotel, Bali.
In a bilateral meeting with President of the United States Joe Biden, President Jokowi expressed appreciation for the support of the US to Indonesia’s G20 presidency, while also expressing hope for the country’s flexibility during the discussion of declaration.
“We must strengthen economic cooperation through Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. We encourage the role of the United States in realizing peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific,” President Jokowi said.
During a meeting with Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida, President Jokowi highlighted the importance of Japan’s support for the success of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency.
In addition, the President seeks support from the Japanese Government in expanding access to Indonesia’s tropical fruit market and the completion of several strategic projects in the country’s infrastructure sector.
“We are also exploring opportunities for concrete cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, including the Indonesia-Japan-Pacific triangular cooperation,” he said.
In a meeting with President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen, President Jokowi encouraged the realization of energy transition cooperation and the progress of negotiations of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (EU CEPA).
The President also expressed concern for trade discrimination against Indonesian products and invited the European Union to become a peace partner in the Indo-Pacific.
On Monday (11/14), President Jokowi also held a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. President Jokowi praised Turkey’s contribution to Indonesia’s G20 Presidency and appreciated Turkey’s role in reviving the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
“We must immediately find a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine and encourage the strengthening of Indonesia-Turkey economic cooperation, including opening market access for agricultural products and collaboration between Indonesian and Turkish defense industries,” he said.
During a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, President Jokowi said that Australia’s support is essential for Indonesia’s G20 Presidency. To that end, the G20 Summit must produce a useful outcome document.
In the meeting, the President also encouraged the implementation of the IA-CEPA and Australian investment in infrastructure and energy transition.
“It will strengthen cooperation during Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023, including on Indo-Pacific issues,” he remarked.
Previously, President Jokowi inaugurated the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo city along with President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan before heading to Bali for G20 Summit.
