Distinguished Frederick Kempe, CEO of the Atlantic Council,

Distinguished Gaurav Srivastava, founder of the Gaurav-Sharon Srivastava,

Distinguished Madam Sharon Srivastava,

Distinguished Ministers,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

First of all, I would like to express my utmost gratitude. It is an honor to receive the Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council. It has never crossed my mind that I would receive this prestigious award. All I have been doing is working as well as possible with full responsibility for the values of humanity.

As a diverse country consisting of 17,000 islands, 1,340 ethnicities, and 652 vernaculars, Indonesia teaches the values of tolerance, the values of peace, unity, and cooperation.

As someone, as a leader who often visits the villages, who often visits the countrysides, traditional markets, I know because common people teach me about moderation and their vulnerability to challenges. The most difficult challenge is always faced by the grassroots, by poor families, by low-income countries. Therefore, I always work hard to fight for the independence of these people and voice the interest of low-income countries in various fora.

The world cannot be built with rivalry and greed. Instead, it must be built with tolerance and cooperation that is based on mutual respect and benefits all parties. Indonesia’s G20 Presidency this year and Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship next year that was handed over to me, is and will be based on those spirits.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,

Once again, thank you for giving me the Global Citizen Award. It will give a bigger motivation to me and the Indonesian Government to take a big responsibility and become a part of the global solution.

I thank you.

(DH/MMB)
