President Jokowi Inspects Reconstruction Project in Quake-Hit Cianjur
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (12/05) inspected the construction of earthquake-proof houses in Sirnagalih village, Cilaku district, Cianjur regency.
“This is the first zone for relocation. Approximately 200 houses will be built here immediately, all of them will be earthquake-proof houses,” the President told journalists after the inspection.
According to the President, the Government was ready to build 1,600 similar houses in other locations. The relocation is prioritized for residents whose homes are at the epicenter of the earthquake, especially in Cugenang district.
“[Houses] located at the epicenter of the earthquake, especially in Cugenang, will be moved here and to the second location,” he continued.
For residents’ houses that were not relocated, the Government will provide assistance in line with the level of damage, with Rp 50 million for every heavily damaged house, Rp 25 million for moderately damaged houses, and Rp 10 million for lightly damaged houses.
In the meantime, Director General of Housing of Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Iwan Suprijanto, said that the houses would be built on an area of 2.5 hectares, using earthquake-proof housing technology or the healthy modest instant house (RISHA). Each house is of type 36 and is built on an area of 75 square meters.
“We have started this construction 10 days after the disaster occurred, after the land was declared clear and clean based on the appraisal carried out by the Geology Agency, BMKG, and Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing,” he said.
