Gov’t Pushes for EV Ecosystem Development to Boost Job Creation

Development of Electric Vehicle Ecosystem including manufacturing of vehicle and battery is expected to support job creation in Indonesia.

The statement was made by Minister of Investment/ Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia after joining a limited meeting on the Development of Electric Vehicle Ecosystem led by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday (01/13).

“Thus, we will build ecosystem for the development of EV and motorcycle in a bid to create more jobs,” he said.

The Minister went on to say that the Government has drawn up several formulates to ensure the sustainability of EV ecosystem development.

“We will start the production in the first semester of 2024 by LG (EV battery factory) in Karawang. Second, ecosystem for EV will be constructed this year by CATL (energy company) and LG,” he said.

Bahlil added that the development of EV ecosystem is vital to keep our huge market to ourselves so that Indonesia’s market will not be penetrated by imported goods. In addition, the production is also expected to be sold overseas.

“Second, we are also able to enter export market. In that regard, the State-owned Enterprises will also prepare other infrastructure,” he said adding that the development of EV ecosystem will uphold the environment-friendly principle.

He underscored that the Government will limit construction of smelters that are not oriented towards green energy as the Government’s concern to the development of green energy and green industry. (FID/UN) (RAS/LW)
