President Jokowi Welcomes Press Council Members at Merdeka Palace
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (02/06) welcomed the members of the Press Council at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
“The President conveyed an important message that the freedom of the press should be coupled with trustworthiness in delivering news by verifying the news and implementing journalistic ethics,” Press Council chairperson Ninik Rahayu said after the meeting.
Ninik went on to say that the Press Council members also talked about work programs of the Council with the President. The programs include data collection on press ratification, handling of complaints and enforcement of journalistic ethics, as well as development of journalists’ capability.
The Press Council members also conveyed the progress in handling cases involving journalists. According to Ninik, currently there is a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Press Council and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
“We continue to disseminate (the MoU) to the relevant stakeholders so that they understand how to resolve press cases. However, the criminal cases are the domain of the Police,” Ninik Said.
During the meeting, Ninik also said that President Jokowi would attend the National Press Day to be held on February 9, 2023 in Medan. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/MMB)
