Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy on behalf of the Indonesian Government handed over humanitarian assistance to quake-affected residents in Hassa district, Türkiye.

“I just handed the fourth batch of humanitarian assistance from the people, Government, and the NGO of Indonesia. This is our last humanitarian air service but I ensure you that this will not be the last humanitarian assistance from us,” he said at a field hospital of Indonesian Emergency Medical Team (EMT) in Hassa district, Hatay province, Türkiye, on Wednesday (02/22).

The Minister said that the assistance shows Indonesia’s great concern over the quake and reflects close relations between people of the two countries. The Government and people of Türkiye have also been making great contribution to help Indonesia during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami that hit Aceh as well as Palu earthquake and liquefaction in 2018.

He asserted that this mission is the biggest humanitarian mission ever made by the Indonesian Government to help a neighboring country which involved 250 personnel, used five freight aircrafts carrying 110 tons of goods and 50 containers of instant food, and established one field hospital and two 24-hour emergency kitchens.

According to the Minister, Indonesia has sent Medium Urban Search and Rescue, EMT, and logistics teams that help the Government of Türkiye in transporting logistics and victims in quake-affected regions.

He expressed hope that both Indonesia and Türkiye, as countries with high natural disaster risk, can learn about disaster management from each other. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RAS/ MMB)
