The Government has been taking necessary measures to maintain price stability of staple food for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, in line with directives of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“I think everything is relatively under control. The supply of commodities that depend on imports, including meat and soybeans, will be procured immediately, as previously stated by Pak Arief (Head of the National Food Agency),” Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said in a press conference after attending a meeting chaired by President Jokowi on Friday (03/24) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

In the meantime, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan said that currently nearly 90 percent of the anticipatory measures ahead of Eid al-Fitr have been running.

“Almost 90 percent of the anticipatory measures for Eid al-Fitr are on the track and hopefully there will be no problems. As of today, we have sufficient food supply and the price is still under control,” the Trade Minister said.

The Minister further said that President Jokowi had instructed the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to purchase harvested rice as much as possible.

“The President has instructed the Bulog to purchase unhusked rice and rice from farmers as much as possible,” the Minister said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/MMB)
