Gov’t Ensures Road Preparedness Ahead of Mudik Season
To support this year’s mudik (annual exodus ahead of Eid al Fitr), Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has announced measures to ensure the operation and stability of both toll roads and national roads.
“[This] includes improving rest areas and providing support for operational traffic management to provide better convenience for mudik travelers,” the Ministry’s Director General of Public Highways Hedy Rahadian said as quoted from the Ministry’s official website, Tuesday (03/28).
According to Hedy, the condition of national roads that are frequently used by mudik travelers are generally in proper condition, adding that 1,716 km of toll roads in Java are in operation with 90 rest areas.
“To support this year’s mudik, we already operated several additional toll roads addition in the island, including Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu toll road, Semarang-Demak toll road, among others,” Hedy said.
Hendy went on to say that the Ministry is also providing operational support for traffic management through coordination with Ministry of Transportation, the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas), and toll road business entity (BUJT) in supporting traffic flow, toll transaction and construction services.
The Ministry, he added, is also providing “Tol Kita” app to facilitate the public to obtain information on traffic conditions, weather forecasts, call centers, toll road maps, and location of rest areas.
“We are also carrying out toll road beautification and landscaping by painting road markings and maintaining guard rails, bridges/crossing bridges (JPO)/overpasses, concrete barriers, as well as planting and taking care of trees,” Hedy remarked. (UN) (GWH/EP)
