President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday (04/11) visited the Kelapa market, Cilegon city, Banten province.

During the visit, the President inspected the prices of staple foods as well as handed over social assistance to traders in the market.

The President said that the prices of staple foods at the Kelapa market were relatively high compared to prices at other markets in other regions. The President said the price difference was due to the distribution process of goods.

“The price of shallots in Boyolali yesterday was 26,000, the price here is 35,000. The price of garlic is 40,000. The prices in regions are different. It shows that we still have problems in the distribution,” the President said in his statement after the visit.

According to the President, even though the prices of a number of staple foods are relatively high, the President said that the staple food supply ahead of Eid Al-Fitr is still under control.

The President further said that regional governments will take measures to maintain the price stability for staple food in the regions, control inflation and maintain people’s purchasing power.

“The regional governments surely understand the necessary measures to curb inflation,” the President remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/MUR)
