President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo visited Tugu Palsigunung market, Cimanggis district, Depok city, West Java province, on Thursday (04/13). During the visit, the Head of State inspected staple food’s prices in the market a week prior to Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri year.

“I came to Tugu market in Depok city to check staple food’s prices in the last week [prior to Eid al-Fitri],” President Jokowi gave his statement after the inspection.

According to the President, the prices of some staple food at Tugu market, such as those of onion, eggs, and chicken, are quite stable. However, the President mentioned that the price of rice in the market is quite high.

“I see that the prices are good, overall. Onion’s price is good, eggs’ price is cheaper, garlic’s price is stable, chicken’s price which is at Rp32,000 – Rp35,000 is also stable, but rice is still highly-priced,” President Jokowi explained.

In order to control the rice’s price, President Jokowi instructed Bureau of Logistics (Bulog) to take immediate measures, among others, by conducting market operation to stabilize the rice’s price.

“I have instructed Bulog to conduct market operation immediately,” the President said.

Besides the price, the President also said that the availability of the staple food at the Tugu market is still in control and easy to find.

“Good price, stable price. No complaints from the shoppers,” the President remarked.

Accompanying President Jokowi during the inspection were Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, Special Envoy of the President for Poverty Eradication and Food Security Muhammad Mardiono, Vice Governor of West Java province Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, and Mayor of Depok city Mohammad Idris.
