Prices of Most Food Commodities Remain Stable, President Jokowi Says

In a bid to ensure price stability ahead of this year’s Eid, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (04/13) inspected food prices at Pasar Minggu traditional market in South Jakarta.

“The most important thing is that there is no price hike. Prices of several food commodities have dropped and only onion price increases. Prices of other food commodities such as egg, chicken, shallot remain stable. Price of chili has dropped from Rp90,000 – Rp100,000 per kilo to Rp35,000 – Rp40,000 per kilogram,” the President said.

President Jokowi also acknowledged that adequate distribution has made prices of staple foods remain stable, adding that supply of Government-sponsored cooking oil Minyakita is also under control albeit limited distribution at the markets.

“Why do we sell Minyakita only at Rp14,000 and why don’t we sell them in a massive scale? Because the target market is for low-income residents only. I noticed that the supply is adequate at all markets,” he remarked. (MAY/UN) (AP/RAS/EP)
