Public Urged to Avoid Second Traffic Peak on April 30, May 1

The Government through Ministry of Transportation Thursday (04/27) announced that there are still 55.8 percent of vehicles that have not returned to Jakarta via Trans-Java toll road. To that end, the public has been urged to avoid the peak of the second return traffic that would fall on April 30 and May 1, 2023.

According to the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga offered a 20 percent discount for toll road users from April 27-29, 2023 so that the trip can be more comfortable.

In addition to the second return flow, the Minister continued, there is also a vehicle movement in agglomeration areas including Jakarta, Bandung, and surrounding areas on the weekend which will increase the number of vehicle movement that potentially lead to the congestion.

“We still have more five days until May 1, 2023 to maintain the smoot implementation of the return traffic, considering that there are still people in Central Java, East Java, and Madura who will celebrate Lebaran Ketupat (tradition of consuming ketupat on the seventh day after Eid) on this weekend. Therefore, people are potential to return (to Jakarta) on Sunday or next week’s Monday,” he said.

Budi expressed his hope that the smooth implementation of Eid exodus can be carried out.

Echoing the same sentiment, National Police Traffic Corps Chief Firman Santyabudi reminded the public to stay vigilant, observe speed limits during the trip, and have sufficient e-toll card balance to avoid queuing at the toll gate.

Furthermore, he said that contraflow, one way, and other arrangements will continue to be implemented until the end of the second return traffic. (PR of Ministry of Transportation/UN) (AP/MMB)
