Indonesia, Laos Talk on Eradicating Human Trafficking, Economic Cooperation

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Prime Minister of Laos Sonexay Siphandone held a bilateral meeting at the Meruorah Hotel, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara province, Tuesday (09/05).

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the importance of increasing cooperation to eradicate human trafficking in the ASEAN region.

“The two leaders emphasized the importance of the two countries to increase cooperation in eradicating trafficking in persons which cases are currently increasing in ASEAN member countries,” explained Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi in a press statement after the bilateral meeting.

Moreover, President Jokowi and PM Siphandone also discussed a number of economic cooperation between the two countries, including in the fields of energy and transportation.

“The two leaders mostly discussed about the economic cooperation, including several collaborations with Indonesian SOEs, such as electricity company PLN and Electricite Du Laos, the procurement of aircraft from PT DI for the Lao air force, and also the procurement of trains from PT Inka for the PetroTrade Laos Company,” said Retno.
