President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (05/09) inspected the readiness and facilities of the Komodo Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara province.

The Komodo Regional General Hospital is prepared to support the holding of the 42nd ASEAN Summit of 2023 in Labuan Bajo. “We are also pushing for [its readiness] for the ASEAN Summit,” President Jokowi said after the inspection.

According to President Jokowi, the hospital was built with the help of Ministry of Health, both in terms of buildings and equipment amounting to Rp220 billion.

In addition, the Head of State observed that the equipment at the hospital is excellent and sufficient for handling a number of serious diseases.

“If we look at the equipment, [the hospital] is very well equipped for treatment of cancer, heart disease, stroke. Everything is covered,” he added.

President Jokowi also underlined the importance of additional specialists at the hospital. To that end, Ministry of Health and the hospital are expected to meet the shortage of specialists so that the local communities would not need to seek treatment outside the city.

“This will be handled by Ministry of Health as well as the Komodo Regional General Hospital so that they are all available here, meaning that we don’t have to go to the province or Jakarta as we can handle it at the regency level,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (FI/MMB)
