In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Republic of Korea, the two countries agreed to strengthen diplomatic ties, including by enhancing economic cooperation.

“Relations between the two countries are very well established especially from the end of 2015 until today, marked by various economic policies, one of which is related to trade and investment,” Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said after President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo hosted delegation of Republic of Korea at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (05/15).

Both countries, Bahlil said, also expressed belief that the trade balance must continue to be improved.

In this regard, President Jokowi pushed for wider access to exports of Indonesian commodities to the Republic of Korea, especially food commodities, he added.

“Mr. President also requested that access to exports of our commodities, especially food commodities, be opened, including for oranges and several other superior commodities,” Bahlil added.

The Minister also pointed out that the meeting also discussed cooperation on the EV ecosystem, adding that that Deputy to Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea Jang Youngjin said that Indonesia next year will be the first country in Southeast Asia to develop an EV ecosystem producing batteries domestically.

“Next year we will have our car battery product. The groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Mr. President in Karawang a year or two years ago,” he remarked. (FID/UN) (FI/EP)
