Gov’t to Begin Road Repair in Jambi Province

The Government has announced it will take over a number of repair projects of provincial roads and regency roads in Jambi province, especially roads used for production and logistics purposes.

“[We will repair] among others the district road of Tangkit village to Sungai Gelam village and the provincial road of Simpang Ahok to Simpang Bumi Perpemahan Sungai Gelam. It will be taken over by the Central Government and the project will start soon,” President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said during his working visit to the province, Tuesday (05/16).

The Head of State also pointed out that roads used for production and logistics purposes are pivotal for the province’s economic growth.

“Both logistics and production roads are crucial so they are our priority. If badly damaged, they must be repaired immediately,” he said, adding that there are a number of road infrastructure in the province that are in poor condition, including regency/city, provincial and national roads.

“For regency roads, from a total of 10,000 kilometers 4,600 kilometers or almost half of it are damaged. For provincial roads, from a total of 1,030 kilometers, 25 percent or 250 kilometers are damaged, while for national roads, from a total of 1,300 kilometers 130 kilometers are damaged,” he said, added that the Government will start the repair project in July.

According to President Jokowi, road repair is also needed in a number of provinces in the country, adding that repair projects will be carried out jointly by the Central Government and regional governments.

“This should be done by all related institutions, including provincial and city government governments. The project will finish probably in two or three years. We will catch up as soon as possible,” he remarked. (FID/UN) (EST/EP)
