On the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Japan, Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Sunday (05/21) at the Grand Prince Hotel in Hiroshima, Japan held a bilateral meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

It was the President’s second meeting with the Ukrainian President after the President’s visit to Ukraine in June last year.

“President Zelenskyy, I continue to follow the developments of the situation in Ukraine. My deepest condolences for the victims of the ongoing conflict,” President Jokowi said, adding that Indonesia continues to support efforts to restore peace in Ukraine.

“Indonesia is ready to be a bridge for peace,” he added.

In response to that, President Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s role in achieving peace in his country.

“I remember your visit to Ukraine. You’ve been one of the first of many in Ukraine during such tough periods. Thank you very much. We’ll never forget it,” he said.

The two leaders also talked about food issues, which have previously been discussed in Kyiv.

President Jokowi also reinforced Indonesia’s commitment to contributing to the rehabilitation of a hospital in Ukraine.

“The Indonesian Government continues to coordinate with the World Bank and Ministry of Health of Ukraine on this matter,” he said.

The G7 Summit is an international forum held annually for leaders of the G7 member states of France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada (in order of rotating presidency), and the European Union (EU).

A number of invited guests also participated in this year’s summit including President Jokowi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. (BPMI SETPRES/UN) (DH/EP)
