Head of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir underscored two highlights on the FIFA Matchday match between Indonesia and Argentina national teams at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Monday (06/19).

“First, let the world see our football waking up from its slumber and this is proven by the world champion team willing to come to Indonesia,” said Erick Thohir shortly before the match.

Furthermore, the match against the three-time football world champion is also intended to mentally prepare the Indonesian national team for future matches such as that of the 2026 World Cup qualification.

Second, the match against Argentina is expected to increase nationalism among the people as support is pouring in from all parts of the country.

On the occasion, Erick expressed his gratitude for the high excitement of the public for the match.

He also expressed hope that Indonesia’s sports industry can rise with better achievements. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (FI/MUR)
