President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Saturday (07/01) reminded personnel of the Indonesian National Police to comply with the principle of equality before the law.

“You must exercise your authority in the right manner,” President Jokowi said during the 77th Commemoration of Bhayangkara Day at Gelora Bung Karno main stadium in Central Jakarta.

According to the President, the public needs a sense of security, justice, and protection from the National Police. “I order you to provide such necessity,” he said.

President Jokowi also urged the National Police to have agility and swiftness, mastery of technology, and innovation, as well as good public communication.

“The National Police must support the National Priority Programs and the development of Nusantara Capital City, improve service quality, and prevent high-tech crimes,” he said.

The Head of State also ordered the National Police personnel to maintain spirit of unity and synergy.

“The police is like a broom stick. Every piece of it must be clean, straight, strong, and must be tied with a spirit of unity and synergy. There should be no more blocks and patrons,” the President said.

President Jokowi also ordered the National Police to maintain quality of the institution by tightening and strengthening the management system of recruitment, promotion, monitoring, and disciplinary.

“Please become a true bhayangkara (lit: elite forces) who serves endlessly to the people, the nation, and the state for the advancement of Indonesia,” he remarked. (TGH/UN) (GWH/EP)
