Gov’t Issues Presidential Decree on End of COVID-19 Pandemic Status

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo issued Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17 of 2023 on Declaration of the End of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic Status in Indonesia.

“Declaring that the status of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has ended and changing the factual status of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) to an endemic disease in Indonesia,” reads the Presidential Decree which can be accessed on the Cabinet Secretariat’s JDIH page.

Through this Presidential Decree, the President also revoked the stipulation of public health emergency status of COVID-19 pandemic and the stipulation of non-natural disasters of the spread of COVID-19 as a national disaster.

By the time this Presidential Decree comes into force, a number of previous Presidential Decrees are revoked and declared invalid. Those regulations are Presidential Decree Number 11 of 2020 on the Stipulation of COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, Presidential Decree Number 12 of 2020 on the Stipulation of Non-Natural Disasters of the Spread of COVID-19 as a National Disaster, and Presidential Decree Number 24 of 2021 on the Stipulation of Factual Status of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Indonesia.

“This Presidential Decree shall come into force on June 21, 2023,” reads the closing provision of Presidential Decree Number 17 of 2023 which was promulgated on June 22, 2023. (UN) (EST/MMB)
