President Jokowi Discusses Strategic Cooperation with Australia’s Opposition Leader
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (07/04) met with Australia’s Opposition Leader Peter Dutton at Admiralty House in Sydney.
At the meeting, President Jokowi stated that Australia is a good friend and strategic partner of Indonesia and ASEAN.
“Since Indonesia-Australia CEPA was implemented three years ago, the relation of the two countries is very strong. Trade increased by 90 percent and investment also increased by 50 percent. There are also many other advances in other cooperation,” he said while expressing hope that economic cooperation between the two countries will be more substantive and strategic in the future, including cooperation on EV battery industry development.
The President also expressed hope that cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in the Pacific could be improved through trilateral cooperation.
Joining the President at the meeting were Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Siswo Pramono. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (DH/MMB)
