Indonesia Establishes Cooperation with Chinese Glass Giant
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo witnessed the signing of several cooperation documents on development of downstream ecosystem for glass and solar panel industry in Indonesia, held at Shangri-La Hotel in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China (PRC), on Friday (07/28).
“We just signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and cooperation agreements to develop a downstream ecosystem in Rempang [island], Batam region,” stated Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, in his statement after the event.
The Minister explained that Indonesia has secured US$11.6 billion of investment commitment from a cooperation agreement with Xinyi Glass, the world’s largest glass company.
“[It] will be the largest factory built outside the PRC,” he emphasized.
Bahlil further explained that the investment and establishment of the industrial area will create more job opportunities.
“This investment will require a workforce of approximately 35 thousand people for quartz and silica sand downstream industry in Rempang [island],” he added.
During a meeting with Xinyi Glass, President Jokowi expressed his appreciation for the company’s investment commitment.
“I appreciate Xinyi’s investment commitment in supporting the downstream industry for glass and solar panels in Indonesia,” said the President. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (AS/MIA)
