President Jokowi Designates 24 July as National Kebaya Day
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has designated July 24 as the National Kebaya Day.
The decision is stipulated in Decree of President of the Republic of Indonesia (Keppres) Number 19 of 2023 on the National Kebaya Day.
“July 24 is designated as the National Kebaya Day,” the First Dictum of the Presidential Decree reads.
The Second Dictum stipulates that the National Kebaya Day is not a public holiday.
“The Presidential Decree comes into force as of the date of its issuance,” the Third Dictum reads.
The Decree was issued by President Jokowi on August 4, 2023 and can be accessed on the Cabinet Secretariat’s JDIH website.
The Presidential Decree also states the following consideration:
First, the kebaya has become a national identity that unites the nation.
Second, the kebaya has become a special attire at the national and global events.
Third, all participants of the 10th Indonesian Women’s Congress in 1964 wore kebaya.
“To improve public awareness of kebaya, the Government has designated July 24 as the National Kebaya Day,” the Presidential Decree reads. (UN) (RI/MMB)
