Music, Dance Performances Enliven 78th Independence Day Celebration at Merdeka Palace

A special performance by singing sensation Putri Ariani Thursday (08/17) successfully made the commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at the courtyard of Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, more festive.

She successfully stole the show by singing a phenomenal Javanese pop song “Rungkad” (Broken) by Vicky Tri Prasetyo. Hundreds of guests immediately filled the open area to dance as she performed the song while playing the piano accompanied by Gita Bahana Nusantara orchestra.

Beside the guests, all personnel of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) who were lined up in the middle of the field also danced following the rhythm of the music.

This year’s Independence Day celebration was also enlivened by aerial performances by the Indonesian Air Force.

When the song “Gemu Fa Mi Re” was played, the Pegasus helicopters were seemed to “dance” by turning left and right, following the rhythm and lyrics of the song.

Afterward,  music groups from Papua, MAC, sang their song “Cuma Saya” (Only Me) followed by Shine of Black singing a song “Jangan Ganggu” (Don’t Disturb). (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (AP/MMB)
