President Jokowi, accompanied by Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces Admiral Yudo Margono, and Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution, delivers a press statement after visiting Sukaramai Market, Medan city, North Sumatra province, Saturday (08/19).

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Saturday (08/19) inspected Sukaramai Market in Medan city, North Sumatra province, to monitor the price of staple food.

After the inspection, the President said that he was pleased that the prices of basic commodities, such as shallots and eggs, in the market were relatively under control.

“I observe that the prices are very good, such as shallots, which are very cheap at Rp24,000, and eggs, which I have previously asked at Rp22,000-Rp27,000. They are also very cheap,” the President said.

In addition, the President also expressed appreciation for the mobile market program carried out by the regional government to reduce the inflation rate in North Sumatra province, especially Medan city.

“I am glad that there is also a mobile market, a mobile cheap market, which I think can reduce prices for rice, oil, and sugar. This is a good program to lower inflation in the city or in the province,” the President added.

Regarding El Niño, the President said that the Government has adopted several measures to mitigate the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.

“We have to anticipate everything, so we have increased our imports for this year, as it is intended for our strategic reserves to prevent price fluctuations from drastically increasing,” he said. (TGH/UN) (FI/LW)
