Indonesia, Cambodia Discuss Food Security, Citizen Protection

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Monday (09/04), held a bilateral meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. One of the issues discussed by both leaders was cooperation enhancement in the agricultural sector.

“Our strategic cooperation is not only on exports and imports but also food security matters,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi said after accompanying President Jokowi at the meeting.

According to Retno, during the meeting, Ministers of Agriculture of the two countries also inked an MoU on agriculture.

“The two leaders also talked about encouraging cooperation between Indonesian SOEs and Cambodian SOEs,” she added.

In addition, President Jokowi and Cambodian PM discussed the importance of increasing cooperation in protecting Indonesian citizens, especially the victims of online scams.

“Mr. President stated that in January-July this year, from 777 cases handled in Cambodia, 515 of which were related to online scams. Therefore, President Jokowi underlined the importance of enhancing collaboration between [both countries’] law enforcers,” Retno remarked.

For the record, the 43rd ASEAN Summit is the first Summit attended by PM Hun Manet since he assumed office as the Prime Minister of Cambodia on August 22, 2023. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/UN) (GWH/MMB)
