President Jokowi Holds Bilateral Meeting with President of Bangladesh
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (09/06) held a bilateral meeting with the President of Bangladesh Mohammed Shahabuddin, in Kakatua Room, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta. At the meeting, President Jokowi urged to strengthen the concrete cooperation between Indonesia and Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh is a good friend of Indonesia. Thus, we need to strengthen this bond of friendship through concrete cooperation that will benefit our peoples,” said President Jokowi.
In the trade sector, the President stated that the total value of Indonesia’s trade with Bangladesh grew significantly by 19.9% in the last five years. The President reminded that the growth still needs to be continuously optimized by overcoming trade barriers.
“To that end, I seek the support of Your Excellency in promoting the completion of PTA (Preferential Trade Agreement) in order to ease and expand the market access,” the President said.
President Jokowi also stated Indonesia’s readiness to contribute to Bangladesh’s economic growth through the project consortium of gas-fired power plants among others. Indonesia has also contributed to the transportation sector of Bangladesh through its State-Owned Enterprises.
“Indonesia’s State-Owned Enterprises have also joined the bidding process for the procurement of 200 train carriages. I hope we can receive positive responses from Bangladesh,” he added.
For the record, the President of Bangladesh attended the 43rd ASEAN Summit as the Chair of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). President Jokowi welcomed the cooperation between ASEAN and IORA by the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations on September 4.
“Indonesia is committed to promoting cooperation, especially on the implementation of ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) and IORA’s Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (IOIP).
