President Jokowi Asks Netherlands to Support Low-Carbon Technology Development in Indonesia
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Saturday (09/09) held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte at Bharat Mandapam, IECC, Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, India.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed cooperation between the two countries in development and economy.
President Jokowi pointed out that ASEAN has agreed to make the Netherlands ASEAN’s development partner.
“Although the process is not easy, we were able to reach an agreement. I hope it will improve the cooperation between ASEAN and the Netherlands,” he said while expressing hope that the Netherlands can give support to Indonesia in developing low-carbon technology and promoting the elimination of EU Deforestation Regulation.
“I also hope that the Netherlands can support low-carbon technology development and the conversion of coal-fired power plant to renewable energy as a follow-up to the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) cooperation and promote the elimination of EU Deforestation Regulation so that there is no discrimination against Indonesia’s main commodities,” he said.
President Jokowi also expressed a warm welcome to the Netherlands’ investment for the development of the Center of Excellence in Surakarta city and the plan to organize the Renewable Energy and Climate Summit.
During the meeting, President Jokowi asked for PM Rutte’s support for Indonesia’s process to become a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
